PES-31 Bioremediation

Bioremediation with PES-31®

Bioremediation uses living microorganisms—primarily bacteria and fungi—to break down and remove hazardous contaminants from the environment. When dealing with toxic organics such as hydrocarbons, two primary approaches are used:

  • Bioaugmentation – Introducing specialized microbes when naturally occurring degraders are absent, limited in number, or when a faster cleanup is needed.
  • Biostimulation – Enhancing the growth of naturally present microbes by adding nutrients, oxygen, or other environmental adjustments.

PES-31®: Targeted Bioaugmentation

PES-31® is a proprietary blend of hydrocarbon-degrading microorganisms designed to work together in sequence. Hydrocarbons can contain thousands of compounds, which means no single microbe can degrade them completely.

With PES-31®, each microbe in the mixture digests a specific portion of the hydrocarbon molecule. The remaining fractions and by-products are then consumed by other microbes in the blend. This step-by-step process continues until hydrocarbons are reduced to simple, harmless end products such as:

  • Water
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Simple acids
  • Alcohols
  • Fatty acids

The result is a cleaner, safer environment through a natural, biological process.

What is PES-31®?

PES-31® is a live suspension of cultured microorganisms specifically adapted to hydrocarbon breakdown. Each microbial species is individually cultivated in nutrient broth solutions containing targeted hydrocarbon fractions.

After cultivation, the microbes are harvested and preserved in a sterile, nutrient-free solution. Once applied to a contaminated site, these microbes are easily activated with the addition of proper nutrients, water, oxygen, and hydrocarbons (their food source).

Quality Control & USDA Screening

PES-31® meets rigorous USDA sanitary quality guidelines, ensuring product safety and effectiveness. Testing includes screening for:

  • Fecal streptococci and coliforms
  • Selected pathogenic enteric bacteria
  • Staphylococci

Additionally, the University of Texas at San Antonio Bioremediation Laboratory evaluates PES-31® samples for both efficacy and safety using standardized methods outlined in the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater (17th Edition, 1989).

Proven. Safe. Effective.
PES-31® delivers a natural, scientifically verified approach to breaking down hydrocarbons and restoring contaminated environments.
